The Canadian National Exhibition has recently opened its gates for 2014, and will remain lively until September 1st. Every year, The Ex (or CNE, call it whatever you want) hosts many events that cater to people of all ages. Here’s our top 10 picks (in no particular order) of events to check out at this year’s CNE. 1) CNE Zip Line Zip lines are pretty sweet. Especially if it overlooks the whole exhibition ground and gives participants a special view of the festival. Approximately 12 stories high and 1,100 feet long, the zip line is surely not to be missed! However, there are some rules and regulations you have to take into account—check it out before the ride of a lifetime! 2) Ribfest For all you meat lovers out there, the daily CNE Ribfest is for you. Head over to the bandshell park and for the whole day, you can indulge yourself in tons and tons of ribs. Plus, there will be games and contests throughout the day. Who’s going to win the “best rib recipe” this year? 3) Shopping If you’ve never been to The Ex before, then the idea of having a shopping pavilion on fairgrounds may seem a bit strange. But the shopping here is amazing—it’s crazy cheap because they’re mainly outlets and there are always sales going on. Clothes, kitchen utensils, home goods, food marketplaces… you name it, they’ve got it. 4) Music at The CNE Bandshell Throughout the weeks, a whole line of free concerts are held at the Bandshell Park. Admission into the festival grounds is all that’s needed, and you could be on your way to see bands and artists like Eleven Past One, April Wine,Hanson, Tom Cochrane and more perform on this iconic stage. There will be over 125 competitors clawing their way to the top, but who will succeed and become the next 2014 feline champion? 10) Labour Day Parade To end of this year’s CNE, the Labour Day Parade will be held on September 1st. Each year, tons of unions march in this parade to celebrate their achievements in fighting for equal labour rights. What a way to celebrate before heading back to school and/or work!
