MMVAs: The Biggest Street Party in the World Emily Theodore June 12, 2014 Celebrity, Events, Music, Shows, WHAT'S UP T.O. On the evening of Sunday June 15th, fans of the biggest names in the music industry can tune in to a night of fame, fashion and fun. The 25th annual Much Music Video Awards will be premiering live at 9 p.m. eastern standard time at 299 Queen St. W. in the heart of Bell Canada’s media unit, Much Music. The show, one celebrating world-renowned talent, will be streamed internationally in an “unprecedented six-camera view.” Concert-goers and fans can tune in an hour earlier at 8 p.m. eastern standard time to catch the MMVAs Red Carpet Special, a treat for fashion lovers and celebrity fans. The beauty of the MMVAs is that the fans vote for their preferred performers in a number of categories, including “Your Favourite video”, “Your Favourite Artist or Group” and “Your Favourite International Artist or Group.” Nominees include famous Canadians like Drake, the Weeknd, Justin Bieber and Hedley, as well as artists like Miley Cyrus, Lorde, Imagine Dragons and Katy Perry. These polls are still open; fans can still vote once per day! But the MMVAs don’t only applaud musicians in the hip-hop genre. Other categories include “Rock/Alternative Video of the Year”, featuring July Talk, City and Colour and Arcade Fire. As the name implies, the MMVAs will also highlight the art that is music video; categories such as the “Dance Video of the Year” will be featured, with Thugli, Keys N Krates and Autoerotique in the running. Besides the polls, the MMVAs is a bonafide street party. Situated in downtown Toronto, this concert experience is incomparable. Open to the public, their hot celebrity performer lineup is bound to please: world-famous musicians such as Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, Imagine Dragons and Lorde will be taking the stage. An all-ages event, fans may join the party at the North-West corner of the Queen and McCaul streets from 8 a.m. on. Those over 14 years of age may line up at the North-West corner of John and Richmond streets to fill the red carpet. What’s an A-list event without Kim Kardashian’s famous younger sisters? Kendall and Kylie Jenner will grace the stage as co-hosts of the show. Besides being Instagram royalty, these two are models, fashion designers, authors and of course, Kanye West’s sisters-in-law. The show will also be completed by a range of famous presenters such as Serena Ryder, singer Nikki Yanofsky, Mad Men star Kiernan Shipka, rock group Mariana’s Trench and Bitten star Laura Vandervoort. All in all, Sunday June 15th is a night that’s bound to please. As finely stated by the creator of Much Music, “every day, 24 hours a day, much music is a celebration of the art and science of music video.” The 25th MMVAs will celebrate the phenomenon and culture that is just that.
