Balancing a Healthy Lifestyle Julie Li November 5, 2014 FOOD & DRINK, Health and Fitness, LIFESTYLE, Restaurants Balancing a Healthy Lifestyle We all strive to be well and in good shape, but maintaining a healthy lifestyle isn’t all that easy. The top excuse, and one that I’ve shamefully used myself before, is that I just don’t have time. Of course I’ve learned that this is a terrible excuse, and through experience I’ve learned that once you become accustomed to a healthier routine, it becomes slightly addictive. Some say it takes 21 days to develop a habit and have it become part of your daily routine. If you want to start living a healthier lifestyle, here are some great ways to get you started. EXERCISE Most of us drive or take public transportation, especially during the winter. Take advantage of Mother Nature while it’s still warm outside and walk when you can. Opt for the stairs instead of the elevator. Go swimming, join a gym, or enroll in yoga, dance classes, rock climbing, etc. Who says exercise can’t be fun? RESTING Getting enough rest is vital to the function of one’s mind and body. We can’t resist staying out late; it’s hard to leave when you’re having a good time. However, if you’re waking up for work at 7:00 AM the next day, you may want to save the partying for the weekend. Set aside some special “me time” to relax, reflect, and de-stress. EATING HABITS Lay off the chips for a bit and cut down on the fast food. Try cooking at home if you’ve got the time; it’s great to know exactly what’s going into your food. Eating the wrong types of food can leave you feeling lethargic. Sure, there are a million fast-food restaurants that can pop food in a brown bag in a matter of minutes, but there are a lot of health-conscious restaurants that do take-out as well. It only takes a few minutes of your time to call ahead to place an order and have it ready by the time you arrive. Here is a list of some places around Toronto that offer delicious food while promoting a healthy lifestyle. EAT FRESH BE HEALTHY | 185 Dundas St. W – 647.258.8808 The name says it all.
