One of North America’s premier dragon boat racing events is comes back to Toronto’s Marilyn Bell Park on September 7th and 8th 2013. This marks the 9th Annual Great White North (GWN) Dragon Boat Challenge Presented by CIBC. It is a water sport that is strongly dependent on team work, a sport for both men and women of all age groups; GWN Dragon Boat races offer fun for both the paddlers and also the sideline spectator.

The crew has a maximum of 20 paddlers, including a steer person and a drummer at the front of the boat. Teams entering as a mixed crew must have a minimum of 8 female paddlers in the boat. A good thing to keep in mind for the paddlers is synchronization is more important than strength. This event brings in over 5,000 participants and over 20,000 spectators, there are two races per day for each crew using World Class Equipment. There will be lots of awards as well as fundraising prizes.

In 1994, GWN took the challenge of developing this event into an annual large scale fundraising event for Canadian charities. To date, this event has raised over $1,000,000. So come out for some sun shine, a fun environment, sports competitions as well as water-based activities.
